The Glass House

A winter garden is a glass house: a built climate where something delicate can grow, protected, out of the weather.

I build these for people who make things by hand. Every site in the collection is a glass house around one craft — a knife atelier in Sakai, a keeper's house on a Scottish headland — a controlled light in which work that would look ordinary in the open air can finally be seen properly.

01The light map

Every place,
under the sun where it actually is.

The collection is sorted by the quality of light its subject lives in. So the map is lit by the real terminator — the line dividing day from night on Earth at this moment. Drag the hour and watch the ateliers wake in order.

What has been grown here.

Each one is a working site, not a mockup — brand, world, copy, photography and build. Open any of them and it behaves.

03Five qualities of light

The collection is not sorted by industry.

It is sorted by the hour its subject actually lives in. A lighthouse and a jet charter share a darkness but not a purpose — one exists in order to be seen, the other in order not to be. That distinction decides the photography, the palette, the typography and the tone before a single section is drawn.

The studio takes a small number of projects a year — makers, ateliers, hotels, and specialist brands whose product deserves better than a template. Working from Winter Garden, Florida; the map explains where the work has been.

    Before a page exists: what the thing is, who makes it, what it is made of, and the one true sentence the whole site has to earn. Written down and agreed.

    Palette, typography and photographic language, derived from the subject rather than a trend board — the hour it lives in, the material it is made from.

    One interaction that could belong to nothing else you sell. The board that redraws to your rider. The court that moves with the sun. Built first, because it is the argument.
